January Camellias

The hard freeze last week dropped almost all of the open camellias off the bushes, but it didn’t seem to damage the buds at all. Here are some of the camellias blooming right now.

Why is hot pink the most difficult color to capture? This camellia "bush" is 15 feet tall.

I can feel the love the original owner of this house and the woman who planted all of these camellias and oranges, Mrs. Boothby, had for her garden whenever these camellias bloom. Every year I say I am going to invite the Gainesville Camellia Society to come and identify these camellias and take cuttings, but I haven’t done it yet. Maybe this will be the year.
