Late Summer flowers

I’ve been too busy cooking, baking, canning, and shopping this weekend to post, but the result is that I have plenty to write about for the rest of the week. In the mean time, here are some photos of my late summer flower garden.

Purple salvia flowers, downy and soft

Someone asked me “Why do you care about local food?” a few weeks ago. I realized that I write about how I do this, but never why. That is going to change, but it’ll take some easing into.

Tiny sedum flowers

The temperatures this weekend dropped into the 50’s. I pulled a lap blanket out of the linen closet for the first time since March. We opened all the windows and reveled in the sun and cool temperatures.

The alligator flag is blooming again too. These flowers dangle above my head from zig-zag shaped racemes on stalks eight feet tall.
